Through photography and image collection, I convey this experimental spirit, using gathered images to create symbolic representations of an environment that explores memory and identity.
A Visual Language of Layered Experience
Minty Mind Map (Figure 26) is a photomontage created in Adobe Photoshop that captures my experience of navigating Seattle, Washington, through a lens of visual and mental movement.

This collage features letters and numbers collected from everyday environments such as signage, receipts, and incidental objects, highlighting the constant presence of text in daily life.
The layered elements mirror how language interacts with space: fragmented, overlapping, and embedded in the physical world, much like the way thoughts and memories coexist in the mind.

Personal Fragments as Memory Markers
Each typographic fragment represents a larger experience. I take pleasure in using snippets of images that are memorable to me.
For example, the letter “A” is taken from an exhibition sign in Seattle, while the neon sign in the top right is from Pike Place Market, also in Seattle.

The Fluidity of Memory Through Visual Form
The snippets emphasize key moments from experiences, illustrating the fluidity of memory and the tension in recalling events.
This creates a push-and-pull effect, intensified by the transparency of the forms and the shifting tonal values. These tonal changes mirror how memories come into focus and then fade. Together, they create a dynamic sense of ebb and flow.
The layered letterforms and textures form a visual language that unites unrelated experiences.
